| What is Laser
Hair Removal?
We use the LightSheer diode laser that is designed to
remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and
more reliably than other methods of hair removal including
electrolysis. Laser energy impedes the hair follicle
causing reduced or eliminated hair growth. The LightSheer
diode laser treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously
and uses a special contact-cooling handpiece that protects
and cools the upper layer of skin before, during and
after each laser pulse.
When to use Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is indicated for men and women who
want to get rid of excess hair. It is a safe and effective
treatment in all skin types and targets darker, coarser
hair in places like on the face, abdomen, breasts, legs,
underarms and bikini areas in women or on the shoulders,
chest and back in men.
What to expect?
The length of a laser treatment may last anywhere from
a few minutes on an upper lip to an hour or more on
the back or legs, depending on the size of the area
being treated. The laser treatment itself may cause
some discomfort; however, most patients tolerate the
procedure well. Some body areas are more sensitive than
others. The appearance of the treated area immediately
following treatment will vary from patient to patient.
Side effects, if any, usually include redness and swelling
around the hair follicle, which are, in fact, desired
clinical results and indicate that the follicle has
responded to treatment. Most people return to normal
activity right away.
How often are treatments needed?
It is important to know that the hairs in an active
growth phase (referred to as anagen) are most affected
by the laser. As all hairs are not in this phase at
the same time, more than one treatment will be necessary
to achieve the best result. Four to 5 treatments at
intervals of 4-12 weeks are recommended depending on
the body area being treated.
